Scotframe, the UK’s leading full kit manufacturer and supplier, has been granted approval by the British Board of Agrément for Val-U-Therm®, a new type of timber frame building panel which has the capacity to cut heating and energy bills to virtually zero.
The BBA certification, from one of the UK's most highly regarded construction industry approvals bodies, is a significant recognition for Val-U-Therm®, which is regarded as taking building methods into the 21st century.
The BBA’s Agrément Certificates are only awarded to a construction product or system after it has successfully passed a comprehensive assessment involving laboratory testing, on-site evaluations and inspections of production.
Scotframe was also audited ensure that a suitable quality management system was in place. Regular monitoring of the product manufacture by the BBA takes place twice a year with a full and comprehensive reassessment every three years.
The Val-U-Therm® panels – crafted from wood from sustainable sources and saturation-filled with injected polyurethane insulation – have the capacity to virtually eliminate space heating energy bills. They are maintenance-free and designed to last for a minimum of 60 years.
The secret of the new panels is their precision factory manufacture in Scotframe’s high-tech production centres in Inverurie, in Aberdeenshire, and Cumbernauld, near Glasgow. Walls, ground floor and roof panels fit together so perfectly that all cold spots, draughts and warm air leakage are completely eradicated, meaning that the house is close to being hermetically sealed.
The Val-U-Therm® product range is designed and manufactured for the entire building envelope. Wall panels are available in 90mm, 140mm, 184mm and 235mm stud sizes and provide an array of thermal performance options which achieve U values ranging from 0.23 to 0.09 depending on final wall specification and customer requirements.
Bob Edwards, Scotframe Managing Director, said: “The BBA's certification of Val-U-Therm®is a significant milestone for this excellent product. Agrément Certificates are recognised by building control, government departments, architects, local authorities, specifiers and industry insurers like the NHBC.
"The award of an Agrément Certificate is a must for a new construction product or system to gain quick acceptance in the marketplace."
